Charles Turner's Bio

Charles Turner P.E. is an accomplished teacher and lecturer. He holds a BS degree in Engineering and his private practice is in the disciplines of mechanical and electrical engineering. His background includes the position of Chief Mechanical Engineer at firms in Boston, MA, Rochester, NY and Buffalo, NY. Mr. Turner is a licensed Professional Engineer in the States of Massachusetts, New York and Pennsylvania.

Mr. Turner designed the mechanicals for 24 Wegman’s Stores, a large upscale supermarket, including the piping design for medium & low temperature cases. The layout included 200 tons of refrigeration, and 150 tons of A/C. He also provided the kitchen design for exhaust hoods and make up air with refrigerant condenser economizers. Previously he was owner/operator of a design build mechanical contracting company.

He realizes the confusion many engineers have between the State Mechanical Codes and the NFPA Mechanical Codes. It is his expertise in deciphering the NFPA mechanical codes and the frustration of his colleagues about which codes apply - that led to the development of this Engineering Code Institute. It has been met with enthusiasm by Mechanical Engineers from numerous industries.

He is published in Engineering News Record, Engineered Systems, Food Marketing Institute, and a series of articles in the Buffalo Newspaper for Home Inspectors.

He brings to the classroom his unusual and outstanding ability to bring “life” to otherwise dry code material, including how all the Mechanical codes work together. He is an Assistant Professor at Erie Community College, and teaches NFPA-70E, Arc Flash/Arc Blast at Ford and Mattel Steel. In mechanical codes, Mr. Turner’s teaching expertise is founded in his desire that you leave his course understanding what you came to learn - Where are all the mechanical codes?
